Usually when it is referenced, they’re at the trying to internalize how fucked up it was and making disturbing jokes about it stages of healing. The abuse includes: burning and beating a woman, a pregnant woman, and a child; sexual abuse (only adults); isolation both social and physical; threats of killing and/or otherwise harming loved ones with varying degrees of follow through; and metaphorical and/or literal starvation, darkness, suffocation, and confinement.Azula takes canon Zuko’s role in a number of ways. She does not win the coveted “not as bad as you could have been award.” Outside of how the Gaang feels towards FN starting out, it doesn’t show up in this book, but will be a larger factor later in the series.Azula is a victim of gaslighting on top of a slower and less extreme version of her breakdown at the end of season three. Iroh tries to help, but knows too little to be helpful.
