Her hair was gray, her shoulders hunched, and when she sat them down in her small abode, the first assurance she gave was that Odin would not, but with her blessing could yet have a boy if he so highly willed it.
With a hand on the slight curve of his expecting wife’s abdomen, Odin agreed to any price.
“He will grow into a boy, strong and healthy,” the witch cursed, “and if he is not loved for all he is, he will die.”
