Targaryens, like all other Valyrians, were bigoted. Let’s not forget that.
Like many other societies, these two things would eventually end up being their downfall if they didn’t learn to adapt. But for the children of Viserys I, it ended up being one thing that saved them from bloodshed and wars.

Valyria is inspired by Ancient Greece. It makes sense that they would treat the faith of seven as the Romans did with Christianity.
