Snape glanced at Harry and sniffed. “You did the right thing in coming to me.” Harry tried to alter his memory and imagine what it would sound like to hear those words in Dumbledore’s voice. It's a job that makes him feel good and put together like an adult, until a student comes to tell him something about her home life that takes Harry right back to his own troubled childhood. |

His friendly neighbor seems to think that this is dangerous. If only someone paid enough attention to Harry to tell him that his neighbor is a little too friendly... OR “This smells fishy,” Severus muttered out loud. “Fishy?” Harry questioned, wrinkling his nose as if sniffing the air. “It doesn’t smell fishy to me.” Oh, sweet Merlin, the first years could still be so sweet and precious and Severus was going to kill the son of a bitch who had stolen the innocence from this one. |

As he and Harry argue whether Ron should go to the hospital wing, a certain potion's professor makes the decision for them. Taking the opportunity to scold Harry before Minerva can simply slap his wrist in response to his misdeeds, Severus doesn't expect to cause the child to have a flat-out panic attack... or to notice just how thin he has gotten over the summer. |
