(But we'll see...) 3: I headcanon Snape being fairly proficient in H...>>ealers' diagnostics and basic Healing spells and having a large part of the training needed to become a medic, but never having had reason to attempt to certify officially. His own experiences with the Marauders gave him reason to learn, and I can't see him wanting to stay in the infirmary where he'd essentially be a target. Death Eater meetings would have included more than enough incentive to become familiar more esoteric diagnostics and more powerful remedies. Now that he teaches, he's willing to treat his little Snakes so they don't have to run the risks of the infirmary for run of the mill Healing or show weakness outside the House; he can keep (some of) their mortifying experiences private while still getting them the help they need. Snape is not a good person, but this is one thing he can sympathize with. I also headcanon Slytherin as the 2nd most likely house for abused/neglected children - not because of Black-family type abuse among the DE children who are all but guaranteed to end up in Slytherin, but because abused children have learned to survive however possible. Slytherin gets the worst cases, the ones who have had their ability to trust well and truly broken, who constantly watch their backs and see relationships as transactional alliances. The ones who claim lofty ambitions because power brings its own sort of protection - and there's more than one sort of power. The ones who dare not, or will not (cannot) connect with and rely on others to the extent 'Puffs do, and have convinced themselves that connections are unconscionable weaknesses. Hufflepuff ge |

*As part of avoiding Sif, Thor delivered the feather that afternoon - Loki being holed up in his rooms, in the Royal wing of the palace where W3+S cannot go. At Thor's knock, Loki cracked the door to his room open just ...>>enough for one green eye to glare balefully at him. "What?" Thor held up the feather. "uh... with Fandral's compliments?" Loki cackled delightedly and made it 'poof' in green smoke. "Did he tell you the feather's name?" Thor was nonplussed. "Uh, no...? it's a ... feather?" "Probably Sif then." At Thor's confused look he explained, "She always shits all over everything, too," and shut the door firmly in Thor's face. Thor was briefly outraged before remembering that he's actually angry with her, and it's because she was... kinda shitting all over his brother. Later that evening, Loki accepted the invitation that was truly the intended meaning and met Fandral for drinks at a tiny, out-of-the-way tavern on the edge of the Workmen's District called the Pigeon's Roost (which served an excellent pigeon pie), whereupon Fandral filled him in on the conversation he had with Thor and they began mending the bridges between them. (It still took several decades before Loki was willing to call Fandral a friend, though.) |

Though there was a part of Fury which would have liked to have seen the man trying to accept that he had magical potential as Fury unfortunately knew the billionaire enough to know how well that would go down. Still, if Stark had turned out to be a mage, Fury had no doubt that eventually the man would have gotten over his issues and found a way to master his full potential.
