Being together was what nature had dictated them to be. Alpha and omega. Their families had thought so too, agreeing to marry them to one another once they were old enough. A joyous union between the Nikiforovs and the Katsukis. But Viktor had decided that they would not be controlled by what their parents had set out for the both of them at a time in the past when neither he nor Yuuri even ...>>knew the other existed. “I was hoping as soon as you turn eighteen, you’d… sign the termination contract.” Because after all, he and Yuuri were no good for each other. ...Right? -- "If… if that's what you really want." "It is. I'm sorry."

They made promises to each other as children, holding each other’s hands as they stood in the middle of the frozen lake near the palace. During the night of a devastating attack that resulted in death, grief and their separation, Yuuri was torn from Viktor’s arms in a sea of red. The fairy-tale of a life they had became nothing but a faded memory, washed away by the twisted story of their reu...>>nion in a future where neither are who they used to be. -- "It was supposed to be a fucking happy ever after for you and him. But it's a shitty world and that's not your reality. It didn't happen like that." -- Also in Portuguese: Ilusões de uma Promessa by JunoAlBoo Also in Russian: иллюзии обещания by nxrrie

Yuuri had come to know someone with a heart-shaped smile, a tender man with soft, ivory skin and a voice that spoke as though Yuuri was all he could have ever wanted. But that man was not all Viktor was and Yuuri was a fool to believe someone so good and so perfect could possibly exist. -- “Why won’t I let you go? Really, it’s simple, Yuuri. I can’t.” Yuuri never wanted the Pakhan.
