| Maekar’s jaw is clenched so tightly that Baelor fears his teeth will shatter. His brother’s eyes have not left the floor since he was ushered into the chamber, and his neck is flushed a dark red. The alpha’s body is as taut as a bowstring, looking as though he is preparing for a battle instead of a bedding. “You need not be nervous,” Baelor says lightly, “It is only me.” Maekar scoffs. “It is only you,” he mutters under his breath, before slowly walking to the bed, a tentativeness in his gait that Baelor has not seen since they were boys. |
