What would you say about a 30lbs hardsuit providing protection against M993 on vital parts and about RF2 protection on limbs etc?
Sounds plausible?"
"That hardsuit sounds totally plausible. But how common is M993 in Africa? We're working on selling to S. American militaries right now, and I'm heavily promoting a 1kg all-UHMWPE plate, because the vast majority of the ammo in the continent is simple lead-core ball..."
Я подумал, шо будет, если действительно уровень защиты снизить, и мне аж по частям насчитали:"It depends on the amount of coverage the suit offers, but I think
that it's generally true. For instance: 4.5 pounds for the chest plate, and 4.5 pounds for the back plate, for 9 pounds in total there. (The very best RF3 plates currently weigh around 4.5 pounds at Size M SAPI.) Side plates would be 1.25 pounds each, and shoulder plates
would be 1.25 pounds each, so that's 5 more pounds. Articulated abdominal/groin plate which attaches to hardsuit: 4 pounds. Helmet: 3.5 pounds with ceramic applique. You're at 21.5 pounds. Soft armor elements, and the hardsuit's structural elements -- like carbon fiber
struts -- can account for the rest.
This should offer good protection. Mobility would come down to (a) how well it all fits, (b) how physically fit the soldiers are, and (c) how well the weight of the system is (re-)distributed... but, for the purposes of fiction, it should definitely be safe to say that it "offers much better mobility than the OTV with upper limb protection."
Проблема, разумеется, в том, что мне не только написать теперь надо, но и перетолмачить как-то, а то аж неудобно будет)
