It’s the Cannes Film Festival and the stakes are high for the Borgia clan. On the red carpet, Cesare and Lucrezia are mistaken for a couple and end up on the front page of a gossip rag. Their friends take bets on how long it will take journalists to figure out they’re siblings. As what they consider to be normal behaviour keeps getting interpreted as romantic by the public, Cesare and Lucrezia must confront the true nature of their bond.
She shoved him off playfully, and he fell back on the bed. After a moment of hesitation, she lay down too, resting her head on his chest.
"I hope there isn't a paparazzi outside the window," he joked.
"Should I go?"
"No. Stay," he said, "no one needs to know."
She raised her head from his chest to look at him. A strand of hair fell across her forehead, and he brushed it back behind her ear. His fingertips lingered on her jaw.
"No one needs to know," she repeated, feeling the weight of those words.
