“Sorry for waking you, baby,” she said, clearing her throat as she realized how creaky her voice sounded from the lack of use. “Go back to sleep.”
“The bed is cold without you,” Claire answered with a playful pout, one that smoothed away and made way for concern seconds later. “What’s wrong?” She stopped next to Jill, before sitting down on the couch by her shoulder, her knee knocking Jill’s shoulder as she shifted closer.
“It’s nothing,” Jill brushed it aside. She turned her head to press a kiss onto Claire’s bare knee, before placing her chin on it to peer up at her. “Really. Go back to bed.”
Claire hummed, but obviously not in agreement.
