“I’ve lost you too many times. Yeah, I miss her, but you’re here and there’s nothing and no one I want more. I’ll do it – ask Peggy to do it with me – to protect –” Steve waved his hand around. “All this. You. … I’ll love her and the kids, I promise, Buck, you don’t have to worry about me. I’ll be happy with her. But it’s only a hiatus.”
In a world where he’s finally gotten his chance to be with Bucky, and where “when you mess with time, it tends to mess back,” why would Steve Rogers stay in the past after returning the Infinity Stones? Bucky, Sharon, Natasha, Steve and Peggy each see part of the web of events behind the scenes.
