Chloe's father is dead, and Chloe is deep in denial and grief. Everyone notices, and Max's parents let Max stay for a few days while they begin the move up to Seattle to settle in. Not long after, Joyce asks them to let Max stay a while longer, just until things have settled enough to keep Chloe from spiraling. They agree, and allow Max to stay until Thanksgiving.
