At a celebration of Miranda's 35th birthday, she begins having blackouts after being asked how she has biotics, given that she was born before the first known human cases of eezo exposure happened.
Further blackouts lead to a trip to Illium, where Liara eventually agrees to help Maria Shepard get to the bottom of whatever is causing the woman she loves to have increasingly severe blackouts. Even Shepard, survivor of horrors on Mindoir and Elysium, once dead already, is not even remotely prepared to discover the depths to which Henry Lawson sank in his medical experimentations, even years before Sanctuary.
Content warning, Chapter 3 goes into detail about the child abuse and medical abuse Miranda suffered at the hands of her father. Do not read the chapter unless your stomach is cast-iron. What is learned also ties in to Miranda's infertility so cw for that as well.
