Victor was used to people falling in love with him because of his skating. He never expected to fall in love watching someone else skate. Having never truly been in love at all, it took him a remarkably long time to figure out that that was what had happened to him when he watched Yuuri Katsuki.
Victor Nikiforov was a strong man, a proud man. Most men from Russia were, really, but he even more so. When he realised that the simple reason he wasn’t wanted by Yuuri was that he hadn’t aged well, he had stood tall even when it had hurt. He loved Yuuri too much to give up and didn't love himself enough to properly talk about it.
