“A-Xu, a-Xu . . . life only has meaning with you by my side.” He turns fully in Zhou Zishu’s arms, his palm cupping the delicate curvature of Zhou Zishu’s cheekbones. “I was ready to die then, I do not fear death now. We will find one another again in our next lives. Aren’t you curious to see what happens?”
Zhou Zishu stares at the side profile of his husband. He had been willing to die long before he met him — but then life had been given meaning again. He had been given a reason to not only survive, but to live . He had been willing to die with and for this man, jumping off of a cliffside with a smile and later ripping the nails from his body when he’d thought he had lost him and then spending an eternity in snow and ice by his side.
(They have been given far more chances, far more lifetimes together than anyone deserves.)
“With you? Never.” He snorts.
