In an alternate timeline, slavery has become legal, much to the benefit of the rich. The only way it could possibly benefit them more is that the laws that dictate things like who ends up a slave and what can be done to them are typically ignored- which they are.
Permanently injured and having been abducted by a cruel master, slave Stephen Strange finds himself being given away to a new Master and Mistress- a couple that terrifies, yet intrigues him. They don't seem to want to hurt him, rather they want to help him. But he knows better than to trust any "owners."
Tony Stark and Pepper Potts want nothing to do with the trade. In fact, they're part of a secret ring that helps the wrongfully enslaved, and they know helping Stephen will be no different. Just another case of helping someone quietly re-enter society.
