He gives Ye Baiyi an apologetic smile. "We were friends growing up, but I have not seen or heard from him since I came to Nanjiang."
"Oh?" Ye Baiyi says casually, barely taking a pause to breathe while demolishing the snacks in front of him. "Are you on the run from Jin Wang too?"
Beiyuan gives a startled laugh. Ye Baiyi really is much more perceptive than he lets on.
"Ah yes. Many years ago we had a bad falling out. I was prepared to die-" Beiyuan sighs dramatically, "but Wuxi kidnapped me, leaving a fake corpse behind to make Jin Wang think I had committed suicide."
"And so you married him?" Ye Baiyi looks sceptical.
"Of course. He's so very handsome, don't you think?" Beiyuan says, winking at Ye Baiyi and putting on his best impression of a useless layabout.
