In one world, Harry Potter destroyed the diary and saved Ginny Weasley at the same time. In this world, Ginny returned home to family and love but not understanding. The only person who understood the impacts of having to share your mind with a psychopath was Harry Potter himself. Talks with her family slowly grew less and less until the only person whom she shared those memories with was Harry. Eventually even that waned as their relationship took a step from being a listening ear to something closer to romance. Harry Potter destroyed the horcrux and saved Ginny Weasley and that was the end of it. That is not this world. In this world, the smallest changes can cause a ripple echoing across the universe, causing it to look nothing like the original. In this world, Ginny Weasley was still a Gryffindor. She was sorted before she became too deeply involved with the horcrux. However, Tom Riddle was a Slytherin and sharing your soul with someone, no matter how short of a time is a terribly intimate affair. Surely some of Tom Riddle's Slytherin nature bled into our perfectly Gryffindor Ginny Weasley?
