Gods do not have favorites. They are not too interested in mortal affairs and even when the dance of the dragons began, they could do nothing but watch as dragons named after them died and those who worshipped them perished. Gods do not have favorites.
Yet Lucerys Velaryon exists and has gained the favor of a god. Be it a blessing or a curse, Lucerys is granted his wish after being forced to watch as all those he has loved died by their own hands. He returns three years before his own death, and he runs. Runs until Westeros cannot find him. Runs and hopes to never be seen again, wishing his family safety.
A gods love is a blessing and a curse — to be blessed by their affectione and cursed by their greed. Gods do not have favorites. But the gods had fallen in love with Lucerys' soul. And Dragons are possessive creatures willing to take back what is theirs.
