Despite his efforts to get Harry to back off, Harry’s assurances only get Sirius to look even more distrustful. Like he’d failed an unspoken test. Like he’d confirmed his suspicions. That look makes Harry’s gut curdle, another bitter sword at the back of his throat hurtling down and impaling his chest, and he can feel his ribs tremble and come apart, baring his insides for this snarling man who has never been mad to take and ruin.
