With a little push and support from Gaius, he opens them to discover his kingdom has been reclaimed by the king, his father, meaning he could finally return home after nine years of exile. Merlin leaves with little explanation to Arthur, but when an unfortunate loss means Merlin has to step up to the throne sooner than expected, he invites Arthur to visit the reason he left so suddenly.
