What This World Would Take

He dreams in color. It is the one thing that they cannot take. His cell is shades of grey, bleak and desolate. The variance in hues invisible to his weary eyes. The lack of sunlight painting his life in monochrome, nothing to break the austerity. Even his very blood, ringed around the chains on his ankles is dark and oxidized, a thick black that seeps through his toes to the ground below.
