Draco Malfoy has been in love with Hermione Granger, his co-worker, for over a year. After Hermione is promoted to a new department, Draco decides, as a grand romantic gesture, to host a congratulatory party in her honor at his home, then, at the end of the evening, confess his feelings to her. Even with the help of Draco's trusted best friend, Theo Nott, and Theo's eager-to-help girlfriend, Luna Lovegood—there was nothing Draco could have done to have prepared him for the chain of calamitous confusion that was about to ensue.
