Merlin was tired. So tired. With everyday that passed, the bags on his back got heavier, his eyes looked older, and Merlin felt the exhaustion seep into his bones. And still he waited. Arthur might be back one day, after all, and he would need Merlin's help.
Merlin doesn't even know if he cares anymore. It's been too long. Maybe he should just let the magic beat him and end the world. He didn't have anyone to live for, after all.
Or, what I imagine season 6 of the show would be like if Arthur came back and everyone was less emotionally constipated.
