| "You’re so noisy and annoying,” Sasuke murmured, leaning forward to brush their lips together in a soft way. “I thought you were going to stand me up,” he admitted quietly, hands teasing just under the hem of Sasuke’s shirt. Sasuke shivered slightly at the ghost of a touch, and rocked forward, pleased to find that Naruto’s body was, as usual, just as happy to see him as Naruto seemed to be. S...>>ometimes, he knew, Naruto wore a brave face for the outside world. But never for Sasuke. In front of Sasuke, Naruto was always his raw, unfiltered, self. It made Sasuke feel as though being vulnerable in front of Naruto was all right. They were that way with each other, neither one more than the other. “Why would I stand you up?” he murmured, pleased with the way Naruto’s breath hitched. “Because—because it’s Christmas and I thought you might not want to celebrate with me,” Naruto admitted, glancing away. Sasuke pressed his nose into the crook of Naruto’s neck, inhaling the scent of him. “I wouldn’t want to spend it with anyone but you,” Sasuke retorted, feeling safe with his face hidden so that Naruto couldn’t see the heaviness of that truth. |

They’d lain there, bleeding so much, there had been so much blood, and Naruto had talked the whole time. Told Sasuke about his life in Konoha, the life he’d been so sure was over. Sasuke had ached at the words, guilt (not for the first time) tinging the ends of his consciousness. He’d wanted to give up, to let the darkness carry him away to his death, but then Naruto had murmured, blurrily and almost too quiet to hear (but when it came to Naruto, Sasuke would always be listening): “But I love you, asshole. You can’t die without knowing that. You can’t die without me.
