Until I'm Home

As Sherlock stands on the roof, preparing to fall, John confesses that he loves him.

“Don't, Sherlock. Don’t die.” Then, almost inaudibly, “I love you.”
I hesitate, almost say it. It’s what I’ve wanted to say for so long. To hear him say it now— but the snipers are watching. There’s no time. One of them will kill John before my eyes if I don’t do this now.
“Goodbye, John.” I throw aside my phone, spread my arms and fall forward.
