Varric is a journalist for the Kirkwall Herald, a small publication based in the once bustling city and now small decaying port town it shares a name with. Investigating a series of grisly murders—that the Templars and Kirkwall Guard have officially declared due to blood magic—he makes what might be the worst discovery of his career. Each murder happened on a night when he couldn’t account for Hawke’s whereabouts.
He doesn’t want to believe it. Of course he doesn’t. Hawke is Varric’s best friend. But the evidence doesn’t seem to indicate otherwise.
And when he gives Hawke a chance to clear his name, the case may get even more complicated.
