The Stranges had come by their name honestly, or so the family history went. Depending on who told the story, they were either descended from Death, or blessed (or cursed) by Death, or some ancestor with too little sense had just spent a little too much time hanging around a Someone that in hindsight was probably Death.
Not that Stephen had believed a word of it.
