This is the story of how to treat crack seriously, taking into account the level of technology the Star Wars galaxy actually has, and removing the heteronormativity inherent in the assumption of how "no, I am your father" may be taken. There are no kidnappings here, technical or otherwise; this is a hostile takeover and Luke is taking no hostages as he gambles with a few things. At least he has the support of an additional viewpoint, someone definitely on his side who can offer some extra insight before he throws himself to the wolves.
