The blankets beside him are still rumpled into a vaguely Jon-shaped arrangement, but the space is cool, as if he’s been gone for some time. He isn’t in the bathroom, or the living room, or the kitchen, or right on the front step when Martin hopefully walks outside. He is, it appears, nowhere in the vicinity of the cottage.
