I mean, "just kill somebody" might be the fundamental part of creating An Horcrux, but going real deep and picking a specific target to create a specific object as the soul-vessel might make the ritual work better, somehow? Like you gotta decide to kill somebody for your own benefit, as a particular act of premeditated Evil Magic, that's what a Horcrux is; but the details might affect how the magic works. Maybe killing a total rando you never even learned the name of makes it much easier to hide your Horcrux, like it's magically predisposed to anti-Divination protections; or killing somebody just because they owned the Object you wanted to use as a soul container makes the Container especially robust; or killing a perfectly innocent baby makes the connection to the Other Side more clear so you can come back faster / more easily, etc. I can imagine that going all-in on Evil Melodrama might make the spell better in some incremental way.

Thinking about this some more, the corollary to this might be that Voldemort might have made his Horcruxes worse in some particular way if he used people as Ritual Murder Victims for reasons other than, in addition to, being a Ritual Murder Victim. Using Harry (or Iris, here) might have made him particularly Vulnerable in some way, because he wasn't "killing an innocent baby for my Evil Ritual", he was also "removing a Prophesied Threat", the magic might not like that he's doing two things here, that he's not properly killing them only for the sake of the Dark Magic. Ditto killing Myrtle because she was an inconvenient witness; it wasn't just using her as Ritual Murder Victim, so that might have introduced flaws into that Horcrux too.

You know, I don't think I've any idea of just how widespread the whole "Haemonculus resurrection guarantee" is in Dark Eldar society. I mean, not everyone can do it, obviously : the Haemonculi are selfish bastards and would only accept to do it for people who can make it worth their time. So low-level grunts who get killed during raids or (far, far more frequently) shanked in an alley of Commoragh (I would say 'dark alley' but that would imply there is anything else in that cesspit) are frak out of luck and headed straight for Slaanesh's maw.

In all likelihood, every Archon worth his agony-laced wine has at least one such arrangement in place, with only the very worst of the lot (in terms of economic and military power, not in terms of character, obviously) not being able to afford it. But what about below that level ? The sub-leaders of the major Kabals probably also are wealthy enough to buy into it, too.

The Kabal of Murderous Death, while not at the bottom of the totem pole, also aren't anywhere near the top (no matter what Sheev might like to tell himself and everyone in listening range). So while Sheev himself has an Insurance Plan, not many others in the Kabal could afford it.

Given that Sarevok has been Hierarch for a long time and is resourceful enough to get his hands on the Anima Devourer, I think it makes sense that he would have an Insurance Plan too. Something for me to keep in mind in the next chapter.

You probably did not realize that the official legal position of Marvel is that contrary to the general thematic content of the Marvel Universe, mutants are not people. A recent Radiolab podcast brings the shocking true story, but it’s easy enough to summarize: Marvel-licensed action figures are generally made abroad and imported into the United States. But “dolls” (which are representations of people) face a higher import duty than “toys” (which are representations of non-humans), so it’s in the interests of Marvel to argue that X-Men action figures should be taxed at the low non-tariff rate. The Vatican had set forth to win the goodwill of the Japanese Government. Roman Catholics were ordered regularly to attend some of the pagan temples and to participate in emperor-worship. In return for these and other favors, the Japanese Government made Roman Catholicism a State religion along with Shintoism and Buddhism. Many of the missioners resented the action of the Church.

In 1937, the Vatican also supported the faithful worshipping at Shinto shrines, describing this as an expression of patriotism, not religion.

In 1931 several students of St. Sophia University refused to pay homage at the Yasukuni Shrine, Tokyo. Combined pressure from the militarists and Shinto leaders once again exalted the issue of obeisance at the State Shinto shrines as the nonreligious, patriotic duty of all Japanese. Also, militarists engaged in overt anti-Catholic cam-paigns in some islands of Ryukyu and in Kagoshima prefecture.". In 1936 the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide instructed the papal delegate in Tokyo to the effect that an obeisance at the State Shinto shrine was not to be considered a religious act, and as such could be participated in by Japanese Catholics.". In the same year the National Christian Council of the Protestant Churches also publicly accepted the government's interpretation of State Shinto as nonreligious. In 1937 a group of prominent Christians offered a "Christian norito" at the Grand Shrine of Ise, asking the Shinto kami to "bring it to pass that the subjects of the empire may quicken and elevate the Japanese spirit as in the Age of the Gods;
...that they may make the sacred power of the Emperor to shine ever higher...

The issue of state Shinto involved all Christians, but its most obvious
effect was on Christian education. This impact was illustrated in 1932 in an
incident at JØchi (Sophia) University, a Roman Catholic school in Tokyo,
when a student demurred to visit the Yasukuni shrine with the rest of the
school on the ground that doing so was contrary to his religious convictions.
The extensive network of Roman Catholic schools in Japan was put in jeopardy
if the Roman Catholics did not obey government guidelines requiring
them to send their students as a body to pay their respects at shrines. The
Roman Catholic archbishop of Tokyo asked the Ministry of Education to clarify
its position on whether or not going to a shrine was considered a religious
obligation. The Ministry’s reply was that the student visits to a shrine were
based on educational considerations and that the statements the children were
required to make on these occasions were simply meant to indicate their
patriotism and loyalty (Gonoi 1990, 294–6). Furthermore, the ministry reinforced
its argument by pointing out that it would contravene its own 1899
instruction on keeping religion outside the scope of general education if students
were asked to take part in a religious exercise.
The position taken by the Ministry of Education satisfied the Roman
Catholic authorities. Indeed, it was thought that the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese could congratulate itself for having reached with comparative
ease a satisfactory solution to an important question of principle.
