“No, no new ones. I've gotten closer with friends from before, though.” She hoped he'd take that as progress and not make her elaborate.
“Very cool. Any young versions of people I know in my world? Absolutely a terrible concept, but it is what it is, I guess.” She scrubbed a hand over her face hoping to dispel the blush and discomfort.
“Uh, yeah. Mary Jane is my best friend and we've gotten…um, closer.” The silence that followed was thick and Gwen wished she'd been bitten by some kind of burrowing spider so she could just dig her own grave and disappear there.
“Why are you saying it like it's weird, Gwen? We literally all seem to have a Mary Jane in our universes. Granted, all the Peters seem to be in love with theirs, but-” He cut himself off abruptly and Gwen wanted to die. “When you say 'closer'…”
