Everyone has a soulmate. It might be platonic or romantic, or one of each, but people without one are rarities. Sherlock Holmes is a rarity, but not in that way. He is a rarity because he is a genius. But he has both soulmarks. He's found his platonic soulmate, Irene, and both of them eagerly await the finding of his romantic one. Not. Because his romantic soulmark, displayed in bright red, has right under it in parentheses: wait no your soulmate says that? But I’m not GAY!
John Watson is not in any way a rarity. He has no platonic soulmate, but others don't have romantic ones, so he doesn't feel like he's got the short end of the stick. He eagerly awaits the girl he's going to lend something to, even if her response seems a bit salty.
Sherlock and John share their science class, and as per usual, Sherlock is doing something else. At one point he asks his lab partner Mike for his phone. But Mike doesn't have one, so John hands Sherlock his, saying "here, use mine." Sherlock shows him the text on his arm, causing John to shriek he isn't gay. And Sherlock shows him the text underneath. The system has to be broken, doesn't it?
