| Martin clings to Jon as they fall, clings to his bleeding lover as the roaring of the void and the screeching of the tapes drowns out any words either of them have. He clings to Jon and prays to whatever gods may exist that everything will end up alright. Then he collapses onto cold linoleum, stumbling into a harsh metal filing cabinet. The roaring and screeching is gone, and the harsh silence...>> makes his ears ring... or maybe that's the head wound. When he finally opens his eyes, he isn't sure what he expected to see, but its not the middle of the archives with Sasha and his younger self staring back at him. |

The blankets beside him are still rumpled into a vaguely Jon-shaped arrangement, but the space is cool, as if he’s been gone for some time. He isn’t in the bathroom, or the living room, or the kitchen, or right on the front step when Martin hopefully walks outside. He is, it appears, nowhere in the vicinity of the cottage. | Martin knew that he couldn’t trust what came from behind the door - the entire purpose of the corridors seemed to be to make him doubt his senses - but when the figure stumbled over the threshold, blinking in the dim light of Martin’s living room as though uncertain where he was, Martin ignored all of his nagging doubts and rushed to his side. “Martin?” Jon blinked at him, his eyes still clea...>>rly adjusting from the kaleidoscopic brightness of the hallway he’d just left. “It’s me, I’m here, I’m real,” he said, and hoped that Jon believed him. He remembered when he and Tim had finally left that place, how hard it was at first to trust what he saw and heard. Jon gripped the front of Martin’s shirt as though trying to get independent confirmation that he was, in fact, real. “How long were you in those corridors?” Jon shook his head. “Not long. Just long enough to get here. S-she said she’d take me someplace safe.” Martin wasn’t sure who ‘she’ was, or what Jon was running from, but he tightened his grip on Jon’s shoulders and whispered fiercely, “She did. She did; you’re safe here.” What if Helen's door had taken Jon to Martin's apartment at the end of MAG 101? |
