| The short space of time after patrol is always a highly-strung and stressful time for the turtles, full of exhaustion and anxiety and the nerves of the night, and sometimes it's nice to debrief with everyone and give their designated-medic a break for once. Besides, it's only a little crack in Raph's shell. How hard can it be? Leo can handle it, Donnie doesn't need to worry about something so simple as pouring resin in a shell. But nothing is ever as it seems with this family. |

| April and Casey were waiting in the lair for the turtles to return and were busying themselves in the meantime by helping Master Splinter re-organise their home while his overly boisterous and sometimes destructive children were on patrol, and Casey had just managed to place the final box of candles in its place when frantic yelling and the heavy sounds of many running feet echoed down the tunnel and suddenly the whole place was alight with sound and action. |

| How Casey had managed to carry Raph all the way from the rooftop to the apartment he shared with April was a mystery, but managed it he did, and after panicking at the turtle dropped onto her carpet through her newly broken window, she called his brothers and they were on their way before they had even hung up the phone. (AKA Walking stone statues hit Raph in the neck with a dart and Leo tries not to have a minor panic attack about it.) |

| They were on their way home after one of their more recent patrols with nothing but a few cuts and scrapes among them when Mikey stopped in his steady sprint and back-tracked towards a large rubbish bin. “Uh,” Casey began when he watched the turtle pull out a crushed pizza box and when he opened the lid, there were a few pieces of dirty, mouldy pizza inside. “What are you doing?” “Hunting for...>> dinner, dude,” Mikey dived back into the dumpster, his legs sticking up in the air. The commotion had attracted the attention of the other turtles and they stopped running to join Casey and Mikey at the bin. Mikey came back up with something wrapped in paper. “Look, Leo- we might be able to get some things out of this.” |

| Leo's been gone for a long time, which means that it's been even longer since the brothers have had any sort of meaningful conversation. Donnie intends to fix this with an after-work pizza party, Mikey's favourite cartoons and reminiscing of better, more action-packed times when everything was better and everyone was happy. |

| Leo has been gone a long time, and now that he's finally come back, finally reunited with his lop-sided family and all the things he's missed, he's not quite sure that he's all too happy with everything that's changed. Especially his nerdy little brother who never sleeps and is always grumpy and for some reason thinks it's his sole responsibility to keep his family alive, which is complete and utter bullshit if Leo has ever heard it. But maybe... maybe Leo's been gone too long this time. |

| Casey and April are only there for the aftermath- when the battle has ended and the warriors are left to limp home alone and stitch themselves up and when brothers worry about their kin and the one with the weight of the world on his shoulders turns cold and determined in his work. They are only there when Donnie, exhausted and in pain and so afraid of losing them, must singlehandedly care for the wellbeing of his family, despite his brother's protests and his body telling him to stop. |

| Donnie doesn't remember his second mutation, how close he came to dying. He doesn't remember the pain he caused and the people he almost hurt. He doesn't remember his brothers trying to stop him and treating him like a savage animal. He doesn't remember the deal. He only remembers waking up to the open arms and grateful smiles of his family and being cared for in his recovery. His family remembers everything and in very vivid detail. With Donnie asleep in the lair, maybe that's why Raph finds him up here? |
